This is how I want to remember the Boston Marathon...

A Memory of Boston Marathons Past...

Today was the running of the Boston Marathon, which has been a tradition in my home city for over 100 years.  The Marathon is an international sporting event, but it is so much more than that.  So many people from Boston and from all over the world run their first marathon here, and many run for awareness about health issues and other causes and charities; this year was dedicated to the victims of gun violence in neighboring Connecticut.

It is normally a joyful and festive event, running 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston and held on Patriot's Day, a Massachusetts holiday.

I'm deeply saddened by the shocking acts of violence perpetrated today and my heart goes out to all of those who were injured and killed today and especially to their families and loved ones.

This is a memory from a past Marathon and a hope for future Marathons:
